Hallmarks by renowned artists
Art is an integral part of the concept dreamt up by Patrick Ribes, permeating every area of the hotel, whether by reference – from Vasarely to Pop Art – or through more direct contributions, notably in the Tag’s Café where the celebrated New York graffiti artist Meres One completed six mural frescoes designed especially for this venue. His performance leaves the Hotel N’vY with an emblematic and exclusive work of art. Meres One’s signature can also be found in the bedrooms, on the large bed-head canvasses reproducing phrases tagged by the artist.
The three large paintings that adorn the hotel lobby are the work of French-Colombian artist Triny Prada –selected for the 2013 Venice Biennale.
Other artists shown include David Cintract, Damien Richard, Bruno Catalano, Mr. Brainwash… and a collection of iconic electric guitars.
Triny Prada almost lost her life in a car accident. After months of convalescence she returned to her art, inspired by this thin thread by which life hangs. In her creative process, the drawing comes first, then the canvas on which the line depicts – with almost surgical-like precision - the faces of composers who inspire her: Bach, Stravinsky, Philip Glass, John Lennon etc. Then comes the performance: the pigments which she used to grind meticulously into the oil, and the strokes.
Originally famous for being captain of the France rugby team, Jean-Pierre Rives re-invented himself as a sculptor a few years ago. He rapidly emerged as an outstanding contemporary sculptor. His "scrap”, as he likes to call his sculptures, now even grace the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, right in front of the Senate - the first sculptor since Rodin to be honoured in such a way.
It was during a visit to the studio of sculptor Albert Feraud, that Jean-Pierre Rives realised he wanted to be a sculptor. He went on to master his raw material (metal), instilling it with both life and meaning. He cuts, re-cuts, twists and welds it to give his works a type of vigour, thrusting towards the sky. One of his dreams as an artist is to exhibit on the moon where his works could hang in space, without any support, just like clouds do.
In the spring of 2005, a Parisian gallery exhibited for the first time the bronzes of a young sculptor from Marseille, Bruno Catalano. Deteriorations on one of his sculptures - a representation of Cyrano - prompted him to dig into it and scoop out its innards. This was a revelation and led to a new direction for his work. His new sculptures became an immediate success.
Bruno Catalano's sculptures make us aware of the artist's desire to present the sculpture before himself, incorporating his own individual style and, in doing so, attracting the spectator’s attention.
With a growing national and international reputation, Bruno Catalano's sculptures can now be found in private, public or corporate collections all over the world. They are exhibited in France, England, China, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United States.
Better known as Meres One, Jonathan Cohen has been the founder and curator of 5Pointz Aerosol Art Center, an open-air centre devoted to graffiti art located in a former industrial complex in Long Island City, New York. Meres One’s art is regularly exhibited in the USA and appears on material as diverse as magazines, CD sleeves, video clips and feature films. Many leading brands are among his customers. Meres One creates his art alone or within his collectives TD4 (The Dead Formula) and OTM (The Organized Mess).
Zimad, a graffiti artist from New York, assisted Meres One in the creation of the design for the Tag’s Café. He is the creator of the “ON THE ROAD” graffiti, inspired by the world of Kerouac. This “graffiti by block" style is a tribute to the beginning of aerosol art.
Meres One also designed the headboards for the hotel rooms.
Two monochrome abstract paintings by Zimad are shown on the ground floor.

Mr. Brainwash (MBW), the pseudonym of Thierry Guetta, is a French urban artist featured in Banksy’s film, “Exit through the Gift Shop”.
His transatlantic exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York were an enormous success, as were those in London. He designed the album cover of Madonna’s album “Celebration”, released in 2009. In 2012, Mr. Brainwash was asked to direct the music video for "Metropolis" by David Guetta & Nicky Romero, in a street-art style.
